Mindy Kaling has described her relationship with sometime-co-worker, sorta-once-boyfriend, still-best-friend B. Novak as “weird as hell” — and now it’s also as profitable as hell, with the duo scoring a reported .5 million deal to write a book about it.

What’s so intriguing about this “romantically charged camaraderie with loud arguments,” as Kaling once called it?

An unnamed source told the site that Kaling’s pregnancy was “an unexpected surprise,” but did not clarify who the baby’s father is.

Social media has been going crazy trying to figure out who Kaling is dating or who might have fathered her child since news broke that she’s pregnant.

In October 2016, Kaling opened up about the split and explained that she and Novak are still friends.

“I can’t speak [for] him, [but] I think for me it was challenging to be in your mid-twenties — I’m such a sentimental person and I take things very hard — but that’s the nice thing about being in long friendships. He broke up with me,” she said at the time, according to Us Weekly.

On the show they also played Kelly and Ryan , a turbulent on- and off-again couple whose sexual chemistry was constantly challenged by the fact that they were total opposites who constantly fought. My guess is that it stems from a real loving sense of the superspecific inner life of every character.

“I think I’ve decided that unlike everything else in my life, I’m going to be fast and loose about kids.

This includes Kaling as shallow, self-absorbed Kelly and Novak as cocky intern Ryan. ’” Kaling leaves The Office to create and star in her own sitcom, The Mindy Project, on Fox.

February 13, 2006: Kelly and Ryan start dating on the show. It premieres in September 2012 with Novak credited as a consulting producer.
